Lucas Torreira has opened the door to his Arsenal exit by insisting he needs to have a think about his future at the club.
The defensive midfielder has struggled for consistent game time this season under both Unai Emery and Mikel Arteta. Torreira was played by Emery in the No.10 role at the dismay of many Gunners supporters.
After suffering an ankle injury in March, he now appears to have fallen down the pecking order in Arsenal’s midfield. Granit Xhaka and Dani Ceballos have been Arteta’s preferred partnership, while Matteo Guendouzi was also ahead of the Uruguyan before he was frozen out of the squad.
According to report, Torreira could be sold to raise funds for the club’s summer transfer targets. AC Milan are believed to be the frontrunners for his signature and are monitoring the 24-year-old’s situation. Torreira has fallen out of favour.
In an interview with Uruguyuan radio station Sport890, Torreira hinted he could be set to depart the Emirates. ‘Today I need to think about my future very well,’ he said.
‘I have a contract with the club and I have to respect it, obviously, if I have to leave it will be for the best. ‘We have to be calm and wait.’
