The members of the House of Representatives have expressed displeasure towards the company handling some three major critical infrastructural projects in Nigeria, OYOGist.com has gathered.

The House of Representatives Committee on Works, on Thursday expressed worries over the pace of the projects and the massive corruption and incompetence demonstrated by Julius Berger.

The Members of the Reps were quizzing a construction giant over the state of work on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, 2nd Niger Bridge and Abuja-Kaduna roads.

The company, Julius Berger, who was called on to present progress reports to the House of Reps was unable to provide any tangible report of progress on the three main projects.

It was revealed, according to a Vanguard News reports, that Julius Berger was not only incompetent at handling the job, but also doctored its progress reports to deceive the Federal Government.

The members of the house of representatives, while expressing displeasure at the company by taking turns to “lambaste” them, said the projects would not be completed and commissioned under the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The members of the House of Reps then called on the Government to split the projects and let other companies to carry on the job to achieve speedy completion.

Rep member, Abubakar Kabir (APC-Kano), who chaired the committee, on Thursday, while at the National Assembly Complex, after receiving the submission of Julius Berger on the three projects said the company would not deliver the job.

“At the rate at which the slow pace of working is going on, there is no way that President Buhari will commission 2nd Niger Bridge, Lagos-Ibadan Express Way, Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kani road, during his tenure”, Rep. Kabir said.

The Reps revealed that despite the company having being paid N200 billion to execute the projects, it was still slow in carrying out its job.

“Despite collecting more than N200 billion, Julius Berger is still yet to do substantial work on the projects”, Kabir said, adding that ” The documents presented (By Julius Berger) at the hearing, are fake”.

The Chairman of the Committee noted that “We are recommending that these projects should be split and awarded to other companies because we don’t think Julius Berger alone, can’t handle them”.

The 2nd Niger Bridge, was awarded for N206,151,693billion, the Kaduna-Abuja Road, was awarded for N155billion, while the 1st section of the Lagos-Ibadan road was awarded for N134billion.
