OYOGist.com has learned that following the news article published by The Nation newspaper yesterday morning, Sunday, July 12, in which the media house linked the Nigerian lawyer, and human rights activist, Femi Falana SAN with the embattled former acting chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu over the payment of one “28 million naira” by Magu to Falana. In the report, The Nation further established that Falana is a close associate and ally of the former acting chairman, Ibrahim Magu.
But, Falana subsequently issued 48 hours ultimatum to the media house to publish an apology letter on the front page of its newspaper, and failure to comply with the gentlemanly request may lead to legal battle between the two parties.
The three pages warning note, which was served through CITIPOINT, a legal chamber based in Lagos State, faulted the publication house for not making any attempt to contact and make further clarification before publishing its report.
While making clarifications on the matter, the warning note conveyed that while Falana did not deny being a supporter and public advocate of the EFCC as he has always been since the tenue of the first chairman of the anti-graft agency, Mr. Nuhu Ribadu. And, as a token of his support and public advocacy against corruption, Falana SAN has never, since the establishment of the anti-graft agency in 2003, taken up a legal case against the agency even when he was approached by politicians that were ready to give him huger money than the 28 million naira in contention.
However, why following the trend of the matter, my enquiries indicate that, while The Nation is yet to publish an apology letter to Falana as requested by him, the media house has taken down the post, as the original link to the post now redirects to a different story. https://www.google.com/url?q=https://thenationonlineng.net/breaking-more-troubles-for-magu-as-new-facts-on-re-looting-of-recovered-funds-emerge/&sa=U&ved=2ahUKEwjvpp-P1snqAhVAAWMBHcZvDvMQFjABegQIChAB
