OYOGist.com has learned that Babajide while speaking on the popular program “Journalist Hangouts” on TVC news, made some revelations about the trial of Magu, he warns against the victimization of Magu, he said the man deserves fair hearing, oyogist.com reports.
He said the suspended EFCC boss Ibrahim Magu, have tried his best for these country in respect of the numbers of convictions and prosecution of corrupt personalities in Nigeria, he has made over the period of Five years in office.
According to Babajide, Nuhu Ribadu was victimized out of office, because he went after big politician who are corrupt. If Nigeria government wants EFCC to work effectively, they must become independent. Then the office of the Attorney General has too much power in prosecution of cases. Attorney general can decide to discontinue a case being investigated by any corrupt practices commission, if he has interest in the case.
“I think the Attorney General’s office should be split from the Ministry of justice, and not just splitting they should reduce the constitutional power of the AGF office, which makes it difficult for any commission to act independently.”
“If you continue to victimize heads of commission, because you have interest in the case they are after, then we are not ready to fight corruption, and that is why they are currently after Magu.”
“Right from Magu’s appointment by Mr President, many of those politician who knows him as incorruptible in the Nigeria police force have been after him, but now it is their time to come after him, and that is why Magu is currently under fire but he deserves a fair hearing,” he said.
