Recall, earlier this month, the federal government gave Rivers State an approval refund of 78.9billion naira for the construction of road projects was supposed to be carried out by the federal government instead of the state.

According to reports reaching OYOGist.com, Governor Nyesom Wike has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to be ready to visit Rivers State whenever he is invited to see what his administration would do with the 78.9billion naira the Federal Government recently refunded for federal roads.

In a full-page advertorial published in some National Dailies, Governor Wike said the President has through his “heartwarming gesture” showed that he loves Rivers State and that he is a President for all the states.

The Rivers State Road Maintenance Agency has started rehabilitation work on the bad portions of Choba road near the University of Port Harcourt junction. The road has been in a deplorable state for a long time. Chairman of the Agency, Timothy Nsirim said the agency was constrained by the Coronavirus as materials could not be moved into the state.

It will be great developmental injustice if Governor Wike fails to spread the projects across the entire local government areas in Rivers state. The idea of moving round PHALGA, OBIO AKPOR & FEW UPLAND LGA in show of on going projects is becoming insensitive to the plights of other communities in urgent need of attention.

The road construction projects should be carried out round the entire state and not just for a particular area. Other local government areas have worst roads compared to the ones being repaired now.

Nkpolu junction of the East/West Road is still in a deplorable condition. This has made smooth ride difficult and caused untold hardship on commuters.
