La Liga side, Espanyol have parted ways with Abelardo Fernandez after poor performance. The Spanish coach was appointed at the end of December 2019 and he earned a point against Barcelona in his first game in charge.
Espanyol are currently sitting at the bottom of the La Liga table with eight points from safety. The Catalan side sporting director, Francisco Rufete will now take charge of the club till the end of this season.
Espanyol released an official statement on their website to announce the departure of the former Deportivo Alaves coach.
“RCD Espanyol de Barcelona report that Abelardo Fernandez has been removed from his responsibilities as coach of the men’s first team,” the club stated.
“The club has taken this decision as a result of the sporting performance of the first team and with the clear will of achieving salvation in LaLiga. The rest of the coaching staff, Tomas Hervas and Inaki Tejada have also been removed from their posts.” Espanyol will host with Real Madrid on Sunday evening.
