The Calabar Garment Factory begins mass production of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), and its first silicon-based face shield, as the demand increase for the products in Nigeria.
Before now, Nigeria spends millions of dollars to import medical equipment overseas due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic in the country.
The equipment is rather expensive and scarce because the manufacturing countries are not willing to sell.
A private company in Calabar, Cross River State collaborated with the Government of the state to start mass production of the scarce equipment. The factory had since begun production.
The factory has employed hundreds of Nigerians as direct and indirect workers. The factory will also export to other African countries. Millions of dollars will be contributed to the Nigerian economy annually through export from the company.
Many Nigerians have commended the Cross River State Government and the private organization for coming up with this beautiful project especially at this time when the equipment is highly needed. They advised other Nigerian states to emulate the Cross River State Government by coming up with similar initiatives.
