The Iranian government has called on the government of Russia and China to oppose the United States plans to extend the arms embargo placed on them.
On Wednesday, the president of Iran, Hassan Rouhani said his country “expects” China and Russia to stand against the United States of America attempts to extend the United Nations Security Council’s arms embargo placed on Iran expiring in October this year.
In 2018, president Donald Trump withdrew the U.S. from the Iran nuclear deal that was set-up by former president Barack Obama, the deal was made to prevent Tehran from developing nuclear weapons in exchange for relief from economic sanctions.
The arms embargo by the United Nations was part of the nuclear deal and it expires on the 18th of October. The lifting of the ban is part of the United Nations Security Council resolution that blessed the 2015 nuclear accord reached between Iran and the other world powers.
Rouhani said that the U.S. will fail in extending the arms embargo on Iran and the Islamic Republic will increase its defensive abilities.
