The leader of the most populous nation in Africa(Nigeria), President Muhammadu Buhari, has unequivocally endorsed and showed his support for the embattled President of the African Development Bank (AfDB).
Mr Akinwumi Adesina is seeking re-election as the President of the African Development Bank, but the US is pushing for the bank to investigate him.
In a tweet shared by the President on Tuesday, the 2nd of June, 2020, President Muhammadu Buhari said Nigeria stands solidly behind Akinwumi Adesina.

“Nigeria stands solidly behind Akinwumi Adesina in his re-election bid as President of the African Development Bank (AfDB). We will work with all leaders, and stakeholders in AfDB, to ensure that he re-elected [sic], on the strength of his achievements during this first term,” President Buhari said on Twitter.
OYOGist.com recalls that the US government is pushing for an investigation into the conduct of Akinwumi Adesina as the AfDB President for the past 5 years. Some alleged complaints bordering on employments and appointments in the Bank have been raised against Adesina.
Adesina was cleared by an internal board constituted to look into his affairs, but the US Treasury Department has asked for another “deeper investigation”.
