His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari has broken his silence on the use of Herbal Drugs for the treatment and prevention of COVID-19 in Nigeria.
This is following the rise in the demand for herbal solutions to cure the ravaging virus that has taken the world by storm, OYOGist.com has learnt.
Madagascar was recently in the news following the country’s President’s reaction to the decision of the World Health Organization to reject its popular COV herbal solution.
The President said his position on the application of herbal traditional drugs for coronavirus in Nigeria was that any solution must go through thorough scientific and regulatory approval before they must be approved.
The President further stressed that Nigerians would not be made to use anything without the approval of our regulatory institutions.
The President shared his views on Saturday, 16th of May via his official Twitter handle when he said.
“My position regarding all herbal or traditional medicines is that any such formulations should be sent to the statutory regulations for thorough scientific verification.
“We will not put anything to use in Nigeria without the endorsement of our regulatory institutions,” President Buhari said.
OYOGist.com recalls that NAFDAC has revealed that only one manufacturer has approached it for application for approval, which only cures symptoms of the COVID-19 and not the virus itself. This is after NAFDAC has called on people with COVID-19 cure drugs to come forward for applications.
