Done deal: Midfielder pens Manchester United deal

Manchester United boasts of one of the most prestigious football academies in the world and that’s why despite their recent failure to conquer the Premier League, young footballers have preferred to start their career at the club. And that’s the story of Charlie Wellens, who has signed his first professional contract for Manchester United, according to reports.

Wellens signed a two year deal with Manchester United in his first professional deal at the club, this has come as a reward for his very impressive season with the U-18s of the club. He featured in four of their FA Youth Cup ties and will likely stake a claim in the team if the season continues.

Like his father Richie, Wellens joined Manchester United only when he was a boy and he ascended the various grades of the club. He was called up to train with the first team ahead of United Europa League clash with Astana at Old Trafford last season.

The very first line of Wellens’ biography on United’s official website explains that he is a ‘midfielder with a good range of passing’. It paints a very promising picture of a talented individual with plenty of technical ability.

United currently have a chunk of their youngsters, who they are evaluating in a bid to hand them lucrative contract extension deals.

Wellens will be looking to emulate the likes of Mason Greenwood, Angel Gomes, Tahith Chong and James Garner, who are the latest youngsters to break into the first team of the Red Devils.
