OYOGist.com has learned that Akwa Ibom Governor through the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem has announced the ban of all Livestock animals in the state and ordered the sellers to proceed on a total lockdown.
Making the announcement, Dr Ekuwem noted that the ban will last for the entire month of May 2020. He noted that violators of the order will be punished if caught disobeying the directive.
The statement read: “I have been directed by HE the Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel to announce the immediate shutdown of all livestock market in state for the rest of May 2020.

By this announcement, no new consignment of livestock – goats, cows and rams, will be allowed into the state until further notice. Livestock sellers are advised to sell off their stock and proceed to shutdown.
Security agencies have been directed to monitor and ensure full compliance. Defaulters will be prosecuted.”
The move is said to be in line with the Government’s plans to contain the spread of the Coronavirus in the state. Akwa Ibom currently accounts for 17 cases of the virus.
