According to declassified US intelligence report, the Chinese government downplayed the severity of the Coronavirus while it increased imports of medical supplies and decreased exports of medical supplies, OYOGist.com has gathered.
According to Associated Press, the report shows that the Chinese government delayed informing the World Health Organization that the Coronavirus “was a contagion” throughout January in an effort to secure medical supplies from abroad.
The US officials, according to he report, believe that China intentionally covered up the significance of the coronavirus outbreak and the fact that it was contagious so that it could stock up on medical supplies required to respond to the virus.
According to a May 1 US Department of Homeland Security intelligence report that was seen by Associated Press, “Chinese leaders intentionally concealed the severity of the pandemic form the world in early January.”
The Trump administration has increasingly blamed the Chinese government for the Coronavirus outbreak.
The report concludes that the accusations were based on the 95% probability that disparity in China’s imports and export tracks were abnormal.
The Chinese government first informed the WHO about the disease on the 31st of December, 2019 and they informed the U.S. Centers for Disease Control on the 3rd of January before declaring it to the world on January 8.
