Today, to celebrate the workers’ day, Governor Seyi Makinde addressed the state’s workers and thanked them for their contributions towards the government’s efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, OYOGist.com reports.
The Governor gave special thanks and recognition to the state’s numerous health workers and volunteers who have been at the forefront of the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Let me start by commending every worker in Oyo State as we fight the COVID19 pandemic, not just the health workers who are leading the charge and risking daily exposure to this disease, but the volunteers from various sectors who are working in little ways and big ways to ensure that we prevent, contain and control the spread of COVID19 in our state,” Governor Seyi Makinde said during his workers’ day address on May 1st of 2020.
The Governor also appreciated every worker in the state for the perseverance during the COVID-19 lockdown and acknowledged that the next couple of months are going to be difficult ones.
Sacrificing the rich for the poor…
The Governor, however, assured the workers that his administration is working hard to mitigate the shock to the state’s economy. The Governor revealed that the members of the State’s Legislature have already signaled an agreement with the government to take a 30% cut to their monthly allocation, while senior government appointees will take 50% pay cut.
The Governor revealed that the decision to cut the payment of the senior government appointees and the legislative is to ensure that the security of the state’s workforce is “prioritized.”
“I give you my word, we will continue to work hard to ensure that Oyo State’s workers are never paid with bear with us!” the Governor said.
