MISINFORMATION/ CONSPIRACY THEORY

In this times of crisis, facts matter most!

In a time of misinformation, facts correct.

Let us be careful about the type of information we passed around on social media during this Covid-19 pandemic period.

1. Fact- patient came to the Hospital but was never admitted.

2, Fact – Patient was referred to UCH and died there.

3. FALSE- NEITHER NCDC NOR OYO STATE GOVT INSTRUCTED THAT THE FACILITY BE LOCKED.

4. FACT- THE HOSPITAL WAS LOCKED DOWN BY THE MANAGEMENT TO PROTECT THE STAFF, OUR CLIENTS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC.

5. ALL STAFF MEMBERS HAVE BEEN SCHEDULED FOR SCREENING

We shall keep you updated from time to time.

People tend to exaggerate events and blow it beyond proportions. Dr Oladipo Sule the CMD of Lafia Hospital is hale and hearty and is not infected by corona virus!!! Neither is it illegal to attend to patients generally because this particular man never disclosed his status and coronavirus is not written on the face.

Lafua Hospital is one of the best private hospitals I’m the city of Ibadan and operates the highest standard of medical practice.

*REJOINDER*!

Lafia Hospital denies admitting COVID-19 patient

Contrary to viral reports on social media platforms indicating that Lafia Hospital, Ibadan, had been closed by task force from National Centre for Disease Control for admitting a COVID-19 patient, the Management of the hospital has debunked the allegation, saying the facility never admitted any patient.

The Chief Consultant In-Charge of Lafia Hospital, Dr. Adetunji Taiwo said the patient, a 55-year old with hypertension and DM (Diabetes Mellitus), was never admitted by the hospital, as his case was immediately referred to the University College Hospital, Ibadan.

Describing the allegation as childish efforts of detractors to drag the revered image of the hospital into public apathy, Dr. Taiwo expressed shock that such malicious reports of a purported closure of the hospital by taskforce of the National Centre for Disease Control, was malicious and false.

“Let us categorically state it here that a 55-year old patient, visited the hospital with his daughter, who is a Pharmacist, after earlier attempts to be admitted in about 3 undisclosed private hospitals”.

“On Tuesday 21st April, the patient’s report reviewed by the Consultant on call was suspected to be Covid-19, and it was at the point of contacting the NCDC that the patient’s daughter confessed that her father has been tested for covid -19”.

“He was immediately referred to UCH where he eventually died on Wednesday 22nd April 2020”.

In a strongly worded statement, Dr. Taiwo revealed that the facility was not at any time closed by NCDC or Oyo State Government, describing the allegations as false, malicious and childish.

He added that the hospital’s management resolved to close the hospital for 14 days, isolate all members of staff who had contact with the patient and have them tested for covid-19, without being prompted by NCDC.

“Our facility was visited by the task force from NCDC on Thursday 23rd April. Even though not prompted by NCDC to close, the facility is currently closed off for decontamination of the building and our services remains suspended for 14 days. The safety of our staff and our patients is of paramount importance to us”.

He therefore called on online media to be wary of misinformation, especially at this trying times, rather, they should confirm rumours before spreading them.

Government should make known other facilities visited by the victim before his eventual death as a result of COVID-19 infection.

Quite unfortunate.
