The Governor of Kano State, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, after placing a ban on the Almajiri practice in the state, hired 7,500 new teachers to boost the education sector.
Almajiri is the common practice of sending young boys out to beg for money in the street, which in Northern Nigeria.
The Governor, in an effort to bring civilization to the State and end the culture of exploiting young boys for money in the state, has employed additional 7,500 Maths and English subject teachers to supplement the teachers in Almajiri schools in Kano State.
The Governor on Tuesday, 26th February, issued employment letters to the 7,500 newly-recruited teachers across the 44 local government areas of the state.
The Governor said the aim of the exercise is to make the education sector of the state vibrant and able to meet the demand of the free and compulsory education in the state.
