Burna Boy, one of Nigeria’s top music artists and 2020 Grammy nominee, has come out to express his views on how he made it in the music industry.
Reacting to a statement shared by Burna Boy where he said that he was the best since Fela, a blogger tackled him and asked where he was in 2010 till 2018.
“FACT! I always knew I was and I am THE BEST. Everyone you think is the best KNOWS I’m BEST since Fela Kuti. But @timayatimaya told me something a long time ago that made me not care about being the best. “The World can do without the Best” the world will still spin regardless,” Burna Boy had originally tweeted.
This statement got a lot of reactions from people on Twitter, with many reminding Burna Boy that Wizkid and Davido were busy paving the way for Afrobeats music while he was still yet to become mainstream.
Fans told Burna Boy that he was truly the best for the past two years, but not since Fela.
A particular comment from social media user and blogger, @JezzyOfficial caught Burna Boy’s attention.
“Where Were you since 2010-2018? I mean where the fuck are you when Afrobeat was struggling to hit the mainstream? The BEST paved the way for you. You came In when the table has already been set and here you’re claiming the BEST since Fela.😒😒🙄🙄,” the user quizzed.
It was this comment that Burna Boy reacted to by saying that nobody paved the way for him and reminded the user that he (Burna Boy) remembers what he went through begging and paying for the western world to like him before he gained the recognition and success he now enjoys.
“Lol. NOBODY paved shit for me. Everybody dey find them own. I bin Out here, if you knew the way they made us look weak by begging and paying the western world to like us you will see that no table was set and I’m the one that brought you the Respect you currently enjoy,” Burna boy tweeted.
Burna Boy is one of the most successful artists of the last decade with many of his songs topping the charts round the clock.
However, we’d be happy to hear your views on this.
