The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the release of Senator Sehu Sani, a prominent critic of President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC administration.
Shehu Sani is a former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District.
Shehu Sani was reunited with his family in Abuju on Thursday 30 January 2020, after perfecting his bail conditions in the evening.
Sani was admitted to bail on Monday by Justice Inyan Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, in the sum of N10m with one surety, who must have a landed property within the Federal Capital Territory.
Part of his bail conditions included depositing his International Passport with the court registrar.
Recall that Senator Shehu Sani was alleged to have extorted $20,000 (twenty thousand US dollars) from a car dealer, Alhaji Sani Dauda in return for immunity from EFCC prosecution.
Shehu Sani was invited by the Financial Crimes Commission on December 31, 2019. He was detained by the commission till Thursday, 30 January, 2020.
Mr Sani was charged for advanced fee fraud and intention to bribe the Chairman of the EFCC.
Senator Shehu pleaded not guilty to both charges.
