Miss South Africa has emerged as the winner of the Miss Univers 2019 award.
Sunday night December 8, 2019, Zozibini Tunzi was crowned the ultimate title of Miss Univers. She went through a series of exhibition rounds of swimsuit and evening gown catwalks, where she addresses questions on social issues and why she is the right candidate for the title.
“I grew up in a world where a woman who looks like me — with my kind of skin and my kind of hair, was never considered to be beautiful,” she said in the final part of her address. “I think it is time that that stops today. I want children to look at me and see my face and I want them to see their faces reflected in mine.”
The runner ups were Miss Mexico and Miss Puerto Rico.
Sofia Aragon represented Mexico in the competition. Madison Anderson represented Puerto Rico.
The host of the beauty pageant was Steve Harvey, who is now hosting the show for the fifth time.
