Oyogist has learned that the Swedish Government have reacted to the FG directive to suspend popular microblogging platform, Twitter.

In a tweet on its official handle, Sweden called on President Muhammadu Buhari to respect ‘freedom of expression.’

It urged the federal government to respect the constitutional right of Nigerians.

The tweet reads,

”Nigerians have a constitutional right to exercise their freedom of expression and a right to access of information.

“This must be respected. Safeguarding free, independent media and civic spaces for democratic voices is an important part of Sweden’s #DriveForDemocracy #TwitterBan”

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, said the government was forced to enforce the suspension because of “the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence”.
