Nigerian artist and singer, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, known professionally as Burna Boy has won the Global Music Album award at the 2021 Grammys, OYOGist.com reports.

The win marks Burna Boy’s first Grammy award win after he was nominated last year.

Other works nominated in the same category as ‘Twice as Tall‘ include ‘FU Chronicles’ by Antibalas, ‘Love Letters’ by Anoushka Shankar, ‘Amadjar’ by Tinariwen, and ‘Agora’ by Bebel Gilberto.

The category was changed from Best World Music Album to Best Global Music Album after the Recording Academy announced plans to change the name of the category to ‘make it more relevant today’ in November.

The Global Music Award win by Burna Boy’s Twice as Tall is a nod to the burgeoning Nigerian music industry.

Reacting to his award win, an excited Burna Boy said, “Africa is in the room. Africa, we’re in the house. This is a big win for my generation of Africans all over the world. And this should be a lesson to every African out there, no matter where you are, no matter what you plan to do, you can achieve it!”
