According to report reaching oyogist.com, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has ordered the suspension of some card sales by Mobile Network Operators so as to facilitate an audit of the Subscriber Registration Database (SRD).

This was made known in a statement issued by the Director of Public Affairs at NCC, Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde, on Wednesday, saying the audit exercise was necessary for the Mobile Network Operators to comply till when the audit is completed.

Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde, noted that the Nigerian Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami, was the one who ordered the NCC to carry out the Subscriber Registration Database audit. He also said that an exemption might be granted following the approval from the federal government by the NCC.

He also noted that the non compliance to the NCC directive would be met with stiff sanctions from the federal government including the withdrawal of operating license.

He stated that the audit exercise was going to facilitate the compliance to the already set communication quality standards and requirements by the mobile network operators in the country.

Adinde also noted that the NCC audit became necessary following the greater numbers of pre-Registered Sims in the country coupled with the security implications of using same Sims to enhance criminal activities in the country.
