#EndSARS trends as Police sues to stop Judicial Panels of Inquiry into Police Brutality

#EndSARS has started to gain momentum online as Nigerians have threatened a second wave of protests after the Nigerian Police Force sued to disband the Judicial Panels of Inquiry into SARS brutality set up by states, OYOGist.com has gathered.

The Nigerian police through its lawyer, O. M. Atoyebi (SAN) has instigated a suit challenging the legality of the various Judicial Panels of Inquiry investigating cases of brutality and other crimes brought against its personnel.

OYOGist recalls that multiple police officers have been brought before the various Judicial Panels of Inquiry of some states on allegations varying from murder to extortion, brutality and sexual assaults.

In the suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1492/2020, are defendants numbering 104, including Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), the attorneys-general of the states and the heads of the various judicial panels of inquiry created by the states.

As of the time of filing this report, the hashtag #EndSARS is currently trending No.1 on Twitter “Trend Table” with over 170k tweets.
