Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said he knew that he could be sacked by the club.

He set aside the question of whether he was worried about the sack after the club suffered the worst early for the season since 1981, said, “In this profession, one day I will get a sack or leave, but I don’t know when it will happen.”

Arsenal lost 2-1 at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday, their third successive Premier League defeat.

The Gunners are 14 on the table after five losses in their 10 Premier League matches and they have been beaten in their last three home matches.

The form of Arsenal has not been assisted by a lack of bite in front of the goal with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang the shadow of the player he was last season.

Gabriel’s first half goal against Wolves was the first in an open game in the Premier League in six matches.

The defeat also came a year to the day that the Arteta’s predecessor Unai Emery was sacked.

However, Arteta was 38 years old – who had previously served under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City – said he would not be disturbed by the question of his own future.

“That was something on the day I decided to become a coach. I know that one day I will be sacked or leave the club,” he said.

“I don’t know whether it was the day after I signed my contract, within a month, one year or six months. I never worried about it.
“My only concern is getting the best of the players, providing the best service to the club and getting better and better.”
Arteta will hope they can end their poor run by gaining bragging rights in the north London derby against table-topping Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
