Police Arrests Man With Locally Made Machine Gun In Jos

OYOGist.com has learned that a man is currently being investigated by the police operatives in Minna, Niger State, after he was found with a locally made machine gun which can fire 14 rounds of bullets at a time, the state police command announced on Saturday, October 24.

The man, Sulaiman Abdullahi, said to be from Mailamba-Agwa Village in Tegina, Rafi Local Government Area of the state, who was paraded on Saturday, was arrested by men of the Police Safer Highway Patrol team attached to Kagara Division along Tegina/Zungeru road in the state last week.

According to a statement by the state police command through its Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Abdullahi was found to be in possession of the locally made fabricated rifle which can be loaded with 14 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.

According to reports, the man was travelling with the gun inside his bag with some live ammunition when he was intercepted by the men of the Safer Highway patrol team. He was promptly arrested and taken to the state police headquarters, Minna.

When interrogated, according to the statement, Abdullahi was said to have bought the weapon at the rate of N70,000 through his late brother, one Sani Abdullahi. He, however, did not say what the late brother was doing for a living before he died or where the gun was bought from.

The state police said the man will remain in their custody while investigation will continue over the case.
