According to report reaching OYOGist.com, an Owerri High Court has allegedly sacked the Hope Uzodinma Transitional Committee Chairmen, reinstating the suspended elected Local Government chairmen.

The suspended Chairmen, who won the election into the 27 Local government councils under former governor Rochas Okorocha, were suspended from office by the sacked administration of Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha.

Upon his declaration by the Supreme Court as authentic governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma upheld their suspension, and started making arrangement for fresh council elections.

Uzodinma appointed 27 IMC members, from the 27 local governments in the state to oversee the affairs of the Local governments.

The suspended elected chairmen, had headed to court to challenge their suspension from office.

In it’s ruling today, the Owerri High Court stated that as follows;

  1. That the Imo State IMC was illegal and unconstitutional.
  2. That the governor should seize to disburse LGA fund to the IMC as it is illegal.
  3. That the 27IMC Chairmen should vacate office with immediate effect.
  4. That the plaintiff, the democratically elected chairmen should take over with immediate effect.

The state government is yet to react to the ruling, to decide if they would appeal for a stay on execution of the judgement of the High Court.

The suspension of the elected chairmen is believed to be a move to break Okorocha’s hold in the state as the Chairmen are believed to be loyal to him. With the autonomy of the local governments financially, they could prove a problem to the state governor in the next election.
