Amy Cooper went viral on the Internet after a video of her calling the cops to make a false report against a black man on the 25th of May, 2020 was published on Twitter.
OYOGist.com gathered that Amy drew global ire after the video of her calling the cops on Mr Cooper (not related to her) for simply telling her to put a leash on her dog while in the park with other birdwatchers went viral.
Following outrage over the incident, Amy Cooper was relieved of her job at an insurance firm and made to surrender her dog to the shelter.
Yesterday, on Monday 6th of July, after new policies that aim to punish racial-based false police reports in New York have been passed, the city of Manhattan charged Amy with false report.
Back in June, the Mayor of New York, Andrew Cuomo backed a bill that aimed to criminalize false-police reports that involve racial or sexual based intent as a hate-crime.

“We’re going to pass the most aggressive reforms in the country, the transparency of disciplinary records, banning chokeholds, giving the attorney general authority as a special prosecutor, punishing false race-based 911 calls,” Cuomo said on Tuesday, June 9.
New York is pushing for several police reforms in the face of the violent protests that erupted around the country and several other parts of the world following the killing of George Floyd by white police officers in Minneapolis.
Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr announced that Amy Cooper faces criminal charges for falsely accusing a black man.
“Today our office initiated a prosecution of Amy Cooper for falsely reporting an incident in the third degree. We are strongly committed to holding perpetrators of this conduct accountable,” Cyrus said
Amy Cooper may not go to jail as she could merely serve community service, counseling or given a conditional discharge.
Amy will be arraigned on the 14th of October if she’s found guilty. She was issued a desk appearance ticket on Monday, the 6th of July.
