Russian President, Vladimir Putin is seeking a constitutional amendment that will keep him in office for another 16 years, OYOGist.com has gathered.

The Kremlin resident has ruled the country for 20 years already, but his approval ratings have taken a nosedive in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic and dwindling oil prices.

President Putin is using this opportunity to sooth his people by offering them new relief cash packages and an outright constitutional ban on gay marriages in the country.

This move which is seeking voters approval by July 1, is to pave the way for Putin, whose current tenure is due to expire by 2024, to continue to remain in power till 2036, when he’d be 83 years old.

Constitutionally, Putin only needs 50% approval vote to effect those changes, but the Kremlin boss is aiming for higher numbers to show the world that he has the support of his people to continue to lead the former Soviet Union.

Putin, since getting into the Presidential office since May, 2012, after a prior stint from May 2007 to May 2007, has consolidated the Presidential powers and strengthen his grip on the parlierment.
