The Presidency, through spokesman, Garba Shehu, has reacted to the demolition of a building within the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana by insisting that the country would not be retaliating, OYOGist.com has gathered.

On Wednesday, the 24th of June, 2020, President Buhari’s Spokesperson, Garba Shehu said, “Nigeria would not engage in street fight” with Ghana over the demolished building.

OYOGist.com recalls that the Honorable Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila called on the Nigerian Government to retaliate to the humiliation caused Nigeria by the actions of Ghana’s government in allowing the country’s sovereign property to be demolished.

The Speaker rejected the apology tendered by Ghana’s President and called for a decisive action.

Garba Shehu, in reacting to the development, said Buhari is respected in Africa as they call him “Baba” and is seen as someone that shows restraint.

Read the statement made by Garba Shehu below:

“The president of Ghana has called and regretted the action and apologised to the president of Nigeria.

“I think he has shown leadership in the matter and what should Nigeria do? These are two leading countries in West Africa.

“Nigeria will not engage in a street fight with Ghana. This cannot happen. So, the two leaders, especially President Muhammadu Buhari, who is much respected in Africa, they all call him ‘Baba’, so he is bound to show restraint.

“Matters such as this when they arise, it is always better when they arise, they should be resolved diplomatically.

“No, there should not be in a fight between Nigeria and Ghana, this will not happen.”
