Former Governor of Imo state, Rochas Okorocha, who is now a Senator representing Imo West Senatorial District, has accused the EFCC of having lied against him.

This comes after announcements made by Usman Imam, The Zonal Head of EFCC Port Harcourt zone on Thursday, that the commission had recovered some N7.9bn from Rochas Okorocha during investigations. The former governor has however denied the claims, stating that the commission did not at any point recover any monies from him.

Imam had also claimed that some Okorocha’s properties in Abuja and Owerri were confiscated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The claims did not go down well with Rochas Okorocha, who has responded to the allegations via a statement by his adviser on Media, Sam Onwuemeodo, released on Friday morning in Owerri. Okorocha said that there was no recovery of 7.9bn Naira from him, by the EFCC nor any other group.

He challenged the commission to prove their claims by publishing details of the accounts which they claimed the monies were recovered from. He also said that the EFCC should publish the details of his properties which they claimed to have confiscated. According to him, he had purchased the properties in question about 20 years ago, long before he became the governor of Imo State.

Okorocha demanded that the EFCC retract their statement and issue a public apology to him, if the commission cannot publish the details of the monies allegedly recovered from him. He argued that the EFCC must have been wrongly informed by his political rivals.
