Dino Melaye Celebrates Court Victory, Attributes Success to God

The former Senator who represented Kogi West senatorial district, Senator Dino Melaye, has expressed thanks to God in his victory at the court. He said that the case which was filed against him by the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN) in the Abuja High Court in 2018 has just been won by him.

It could be recalled that in 2018, Senator Dino Melaye was taken to the court for a two count charge by the Attorney General of the Federation. It was In the case involving Mr Edward David Onoga, the former Chief of Staff of the Kogi state Governor, Yahaya Bello. Melaye was accused of giving fake information to the police that, Mr Edward David Onoga wanted to kill him on April 17, 2017 in Ayetoro-Gbede in Kogi state in an assassination attempt. The case which has the number CR/106/18 was registered in Abuja court on January 31, 2018.

It should be recalled that the News Agency of Nigeria (NANS) said that the second charge against the former Senator was because of his deliberate attempt to destroy the image of Mr Onoga. Senator Dino Melaye was accused of telling the son of the late former governor of Kogi state, Mr Muhammad Audi Abubakar on a telephone call that he wanted to destroyed Mr Edward Onoge’s name. That was the reason he had to fake the crime against him.

The Federal Government of Nigeria became interested on the case, after the police investigation on the matter showed that Senator Dino Melaye was lying over the claims of an attempt on his life.

The case which was assigned to Justice Olasumbo Goodluck of the FCT Maitama Division of the Hight Court was decided in favour of the former Senator today. Mr Edward David Onoga, who was the Chief of Staff to Kogi state Governor, Yahaya Bello in 2018 when the case was filed, is now the Deputy Governor of the State.
