Nigerian Paralympic Champion to Miss Tokyo 2020 Paralympic After Failing Doping Test

OYOGist.com has learned that Nigerian paralympic gold medalist, Esther Oyema has been issued a four years dopping ban by the International Paralympic Community (IPC) for violating an anti-dopping rule.

After the International Para Powerlifting Competition in Lagos, Nigeria 2019. 19-norandrosterone, a prohibited substance, was found in the urine sample she provided.

As the results of her dopping test failed, Esther Oyema who won the gold medal at the London 2012 paralympic, in the women’s 48kg weight lifting, will not be eligible for any competition for the next four years till May 2023, therefore missing the opportunity of Tokyo 2020.

She was also stripped of all prizes and points, including the gold medal which she won in the women’s 45kg competition in Lagos.
