President Buhari on Friday signed into law Executive Order No. 10 of 2020 – which guarantees the implementation of Financial Autonomy of State Legislature and State Judiciary, OYOGist.com reports.

Traditionally, the State Legislature and State Judiciary are reliant on the Executives, creating a system that enables the state governors to, if they choose to, bend the will of the Legislature to suit their needs by withholding funding, such as the allowances of officials.

This new Executive Order aims to fix that loophole by granting the State Legislature and Judiciary financial autonomy, OYOGist.com is aware.

“Based on the power vested in me under Section 5 of the 1999 Constitution (as Amended), I, today, signed into law Executive Order 10 of 2020 for the implementation of Financial Autonomy of State Legislature and State Judiciary.

“This administration will continue to do everything to strengthen the principles and practice of democracy and democratic governance in Nigeria.”
