The Ministry of Finance has come out to clarify an earlier report that claims that the Honorable Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed said the government lost N700 billion to the fire accident at the Accountant General’s Office, OYOGist.com reports.

The Ministry has called the news circulating, which attributed the statement that N700 billion was lost to the fire at the Accountant General’s office Fake News, saying it was pure mischief and should be disregarded.

The Ministry said they have not raised more than N30 billion naira for the Covis-19 relief fund. However, the Ministry is yet to clarify to Nigerians what was lost to the fire.

“The general publish should take note. @zshamsuna did not grant a press conference or any interviews. No funds were lost in the fire at the Accountant Generals Office which was contained to two rooms. Donations are under N30bn to date. This is pure mischief & should be disregarded,” read a statement released on the Ministry’s official verified Twitter account on Thursday, 9th of April, 2020.

Recall that there was a fire outbreak at the office of the Accountant General on Wednesday, 8th of April 2020, which took many Nigerians by shock, given that the ministry had only been called to task to provide details on how the Covid-19 intervention funds were distributed among Nigerians and how the figures quoted were arrived at.
