Just in: 25 ICU nurses go on compulsory isolation after patient tested positive to Covid 19 at the UCH

OYOGist.com has learned that the management of the University College Hospital, Ibadan have reportedly asked 25 nurses working at the UCH ICU (Intensive Care Unit) to go into a compulsory isolation after having contact with a covid 19 patient.

The 62 years old covid 19 patient who is said to be a retired Consultant Radiologist at the Lagos State Teaching Hospital (LUTH); The patient was said to have been admitted as a prostrate cancer patient at the University College Hospital, Ibadan. The patient who is said to be residing in Lagos with a travel history to the UK in December, 2019.

According to a source, the patient came to operate his prostate cancer at the UCH but after the surgery was performed, he suddenly developed respiratory distress within few days. But after due findings was made, he was later diagnosed of a background Eventeration of the left diaphragm which necessitated the need for another surgery.

OYOGist.com also learned from a source that the patient was later moved to the (UCH) Intensive Care Unit at around 8:40pm on the 21st of April, 2020. The Oyo state Covid 19 Taskforce later got to know about the patient’s health status of which they wasted no time to take the patient sample for a Covid 19 test which later came out positive on the 23rd of April, 2020.

It was also learnt that the ICU medical Doctors and nurses who had no full PPEs to protect themselves might have come in contact with the covid patient.

As at the time of filing this report, all nurses that had contact with the Covid 19 patient have been ordered to go on a compulsory isolation with immediate effect in accordance to the stipulations put in place by WHO ( World Health Organization).
