The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital has recorded its first COVID-19-related death on Saturday after a patient that was taken to the hospital died later and their COVID-19 result came back positive, OYOGist.com reports.

According to Vanguard News, the patient had been initially suspected of having puerperal sepsis with high index of suspicion for COVID-19.

The report stated that the patient was admitted on Wednesday but the management of the hospital was informed of the suspicion on Thursday. However, according to the source, the required medical procedure for testing was observed with this patient.

“ All the doctors and nurses, as well as other health workers who came in contact with the patient, are being audited regarding the practice of universal precautions,” the source told Vanguard.

“The news from Head of Department Obstetrics & Gynaecology is that it was unlikely any of them did not practice universal precautions since there was a high level of suspicion.

“In case we find any staff who came in contact without precautions, such staff will self isolate and be tested in 5 days’ time.”
