Nigeria Secures $210M from African Development Bank to Upgrade Power Grid

The electricity distribution companies (DisCos) have agreed to give Nigerians two months of free electricity as a palliative to make the lockdown of the country bearable to citizens during the Coronavirus pandemic, OYOGist.com has gathered.

After a productive meeting with the Executive Director, Research and Advocacy at the Association of Nigeiarian Electricity Distributors (ANED), Barrister Sunday Oduntan revealed that the effort align themselves with the FG to ease the hardship Nigerians are going through because of the pandemic.

OYOGist.com recalls that the National Assembly (NASS) had called on the DisCos to work together with the Federal Government (FG) to support Nigerians during the pandemic by supplying free electricity to households.

The call for the power companies to support the FG to make life better for Nigerians though the supply of reliable electricity during the pandemic was made by the Honorable Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila during a meeting with the leaders of the NASS. the Finance Minister, Zainab Ahmad and the DG of the Budget Office of the Federation, Ben Akabueze.

The NASS was pushed to hold the meeting after actress, Adah Ameh cried out to the FG over the erratic nature of electricity in the country and how Nigerians would suffer if forced to stay at home without an improvement to the power situation.
