The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof Akin Abayomi, during a presentation with the media, disclosed that the commission has been receiving prank calls and hoaxes from members of the public calling through the provided COVID-19 emergency contact lines, OYOGist.com has gathered.
Prof Akin Abayomi revealed that 80 percent of the calls the Lagos State Coronavirus Call centers received were from pranksters calling to try the numbers out or sending aggressive messages to their staff.
“…You will see that 80% of the calls received of corona.. 10,000 corona or 8,000 corona are hoax calls. People calling in to test the number, people calling in to make pranks and people calling in with aggressive language…” Prof Akin Abayomi said during a presentation.
Prof Akin Abayomi also revealed that 11% of the calls the ministry received are from people seeking information about COVID-19 while 9% are from those feeling symptoms and 0.4% are from COVID-19 patients that needed to be taken into emergency care.
