Jussie Smollett has been indicted on a new six counts of lying to police by the special prosecutor in Illinois.

False hate crime claims by Smollett…

Smollet was at the center investigations in 2019 after he claimed some two men attacked him and chanted racist and homophobic slurs against him while punching him in the face.

Smollett said that one of the attackers poured an “unknown chemical substance” on him and wrapped a rope around his neck.

He claimed the attackers wore masks and used the MAGA slogan, which is short Make America Great Again used by American President, Donald Trump’s campaign.

In the turn of events, authorities said their investigations revealed that Smollett staged the attack on himself in order to generate public sympathy and increase his earnings from his role in the Empire show.

He denied the accusations and the police dropped all charges against him in March 2019 after an emergency court appearance.

The State Attorney for Cook County, Kim Foxx withdrew from the case after she was accused by some of sharing a connection to Smollett’s family. The State’s first assistant attorney Joe Magats then took over the case as lead prosecutor.

Following the dismissal of the case against Smollett, the Chicago City filed another case against the actor in order to recover over $130,000 paid to police officers in overtime fees spent in investigating Smollett’s claims.

New charges against Smollett

However, the Chicago City Police has brought up the case against Smollet again and accused the courts of setting him “off scot-free.”

Back in August, Dan K. Webb became the special prosecutor to investigate the decision to drop charges against Smollett, with the authority to file new charges when required.

Come 2020, the Chicago Police issued a search warrant that ordered Google to release one year of Jussie Smollet’s personal data, including web search and browser history, pictures, documents and geolocation to Dan K. Webb.

According to Webb, Jussie Smollett now faces six counts of disorderly conduct.

In a statement, Dan said that Jussie would be further prosecuted in the case.

Dan said Smollet has just been charged with the crime of making false reports to the officers of the Chicago Police Department in relation to the hate crime report he filed. Smollett is expected to appear in court on the 24th of February.

Chicago has filed a lawsuit against Smollett in a bid to recover the $130,000 spent in prosecuting the case. Smollett has filed a counter-suit.
