A few hours after Nigeria’s Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali-Pantami issued a new directive to the National Communication Commission, NCC, to ensure that no Nigerian had more than three SIM cards, he has reacted to the news of N10 VAT placed on calls and texts.

A Nigerian had taken to Twitter to ask if the new VAT deduction on calls and texts are normal.

Then he replied that it is outside his scope, that it is a matter to be handled by the Ministry of Finance and FIRS. he then concluded by saying that he did not have any input and he saw it just as the man saw it too.

The Nigerian man with Twitter handle @Atoms_Muzyab said: “@DrIsaPantami sir there has been vat deduction on calls and texts. Is this normal sir?”

Dr Pantami replied: “This is completely outside my mandate. VAT has to do with Ministry of Finance and FIRS. I didn’t have input in it. I saw it the way you saw it, my brother. Best wishes” See their exchange:
