Renovation of National Assembly at N37 billion not okay – Akin Alabi

It’s no longer news that the budget for the renovation of the National Assembly Complex has been passed and accented by the president. However, Nigerians are not comfortable with the fact that a complex, built in 1999, at a cost of nearly $35.18 million should be renovated with N37 billion.

While Nigerians have been crying about this misplaced priority, their lawmakers both in the Senate and House of Representatives seemed unperturbed.

Recently, however, they seem to be coming to the realization that they are not absolutely carrying the people along.

Oloye Akin Alabi, a house of the representatives’ member in a release says, ” I see no reason why we should spend N37b renovating the National Assembly. Yes, we need an upgrade on some aspects like the electronic systems (sound system, voting system, etc) as they are outdated but N37b? No. Let’s spend that on our schools and hospitals. ”

Nigerians are clamoring a re-think on this issue and hopefully, their lawmakers are waking up to their cries.
