Burkina Faso was rocked by a deadly terrorist attack that saw at least 35 civilians killed on the eve of Christmas. Most of the victims were women.

Following this incident, the French government has announced it would be deploying its military forces to the country.

In the attack, the country’s military killed 80 jihadists in the town of Arbinda of Soum province. It is considered one of the deadliest attacks in 5 years since the operation of the jihadist terrorists in the country.

According to an announcement made by the French minister of Armed Forces Florence Parly, France would deploy the troops to the “three border” areas of Burkina Faso.

While paying a visit to Ouagadougou, the capital of the West African country, the minister declared that the launch of operation ‘Bourgou 4’ will be led by the Barkhene (an operation of the French army in the Sahel region of Africa) but will have significant oversight by two Burkinabe enterprises.

This will be one of Frances’s initial significant commitments of foot on the ground military campaign in Burkina Faso. For 5 years the country has deployed its forces to neighboring African countries including Mali, Chad and Niger.

The area of military concentration in Burkina Faso that Parly declared are bordering Mali, Chad and Niger, where there is a significant terrorist operation by the jihadist group.
